TVS Girling’s S Narendran and Karthi Krishna grabbed pole positions followed by Bangalore based Ajay Kini of Wallace Sports in the qualifying session of Formula Swift category of the 13th JK Tyre National Championship which begins tomorrow.

The duo drove excellently, clocking 1min 56.527 seconds and 1min 57.820 seconds in the qualifying event. For the Indian Super Saloon race, Sailesh Bolisetti, an engineering student from Vishakapatanam representing Ram’s Racing, took the pole position.

Bolisetti, winner of the first leg of the Polo Cup in May, clocked 2 min 02.594 seconds, while Raj Virdhan, a Coimbatore-based industrialist, took second spot (2:04.306 secs). Siddarth Kishore of Performance Racing was third (2:05.026 secs).

City-based veteran driver Sivaramakrishnan flipped his car on Turn-4, damaging it badly. But the former champion was confident his car would be ready in time for tomorrow’s race.

Representing Moto Rev India Racing Team, he messed up his chances in the qualifying in the very first lap.

Customised 1300 CC Maruti Esteem Suzuki engines mounted on bodywork by LG Sports, which was to make its debut tomorrow has been cancelled and postponed to next month in Coimbatore.

A press release from Akbar Ebrahim of LG Sports said the running of Formula Rolon ‘Suzuki Race’ in round one has been postponed as ‘there has been component failure that led to the scoring and damaging of the camshaft and oil journals’

“In addition, it has also been noticed there is a lot of intermittency in the ignition coil causing premature failures, which could affect the performance,” he said, adding failures in all engines were detected last night after detailed inspections.
