Michael Schumacher drives the new Mercedes W01 racing car during a test session at the Ricardo Tormo race track, in Cheste, just outside Valencia, Spain.

Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg helped unveil the new Mercedes GP car before testing in Valencia on Monday.

The two drivers posed with the MGP W01 after mechanics rolled out the car in the pit lane at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.

Rosberg will be first behind the wheel in the morning test session before seven-time champion Schumacher steps in later in the day.

Mercedes last week unveiled the car’s silver livery but had waited until the Valencia tests to reveal the design.

Its most striking features are a slim V-shaped nose, which dips downwards and a shark-fin engine cover.

Formula One teams are taking part in a three-day test session, the first of four this month before the season begins in Bahrain on March 14.

All the leading teams are in Valencia apart from Red Bull, which will launch its car on February 10.

Mercedes last year bought out the Brawn GP team, which won both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships in its debut season. Schumacher, 41, is returning to Formula One racing after a three-year retirement.
