Formula One driver Felipe Massa, recovering from multiple skull fractures from a crash in July, will get back behind the wheel in a charity karting event in November.

Massa said on Thursday he will join former Ferrari teammate Michael Schumacher, fellow Brazilian driver Rubens Barrichello and other racing stars for his own organised event from November 27-29 in the southern city of Florianopolis.

Massa reportedly hasn’t been involved in any racing activity since his life-threatening crash in Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying on July 25.

Exams show he has been improving significantly and is near a full recovery, but doctors are yet to allow him to return to F1.

Although Massa said he wants to race at the Brazilian GP next month, Ferrari hinted he won’t be back in the series until next year.

Massa was hospitalised for nine days following the high-speed crash.

Massa said he was upbeat for his “International Challenge of the Stars” because it will take place at a track he designed along with Renault’s Brazilian test driver Lucas Di Grassi.
