Auer takes day's honours

April 10, 2011 08:01 pm | Updated 08:02 pm IST - Sepang:

Lucas Auer of EuroInternational ran a brilliant pole to flag victory in Sunday's round two of the JK Racing Asia Series at Sepang International Circuit.

The young Austrian more than made up for his mistake and driving and managing to keep Afiq Yazid and Nabil Jeffri behind him. They finished second and third. That way there were new faces on the podium except for the change in places.

The three leading drivers all managed to clock mid 2 minutes 11 seconds laps with Nabil Jeffri claiming the fastest lap of the day with 2:11.495.

India's Raj Bharat did better than what he did on Saturday and finished 12th despite starting at the end of the grid.

“My and my teammates' tryes were accidently exchanged by the engineers so we were penalised and had to start at the end.”

The 14-year-old school boy from Bangalore, who initially picked up the tennis racket before his love for speed got him into this sport, was happy to have improved. “That's what I intend to do, and go up to the pole soon,” he said confidently.

“I have a few more races coming up and am looking forward to racing in India,” he said.

Auer who had to defend his position twice said, “it was a good race. Yazid and Nabil were really quick and were exactly the same pace.

“It was a nice race, I could drive consistently and set quick times. The tyres, the car and everything was just really good. I have to thank my team, they did a good job,” an elated EuroInternational driver said.

Yazid, who struggled with his car towards the end said, “it was hard to handle in sector three and four. I just kept a consistent pace.”

For Jeffri, it turned out to be a wonderful weekend. “two podiums for me this weekend and I think it was a brilliant result.”

Dr. R.P. Singhania , Vice-Chairman & MD, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. gave away the trophies.
