AKC Season 3 from January 8

The Amaron Karting Challenge Season 3, organised by Amaron Pro Racing (a motorsport initiative of Amara Raja Batteries) will be held on January 8 and 9, 2011 at Hakone Karting Track, Powai.

Devised for students in 12-16 age groups, around 9500 students have registered, according to a media release. The top six finishers at Mumbai will be racing amongst 54 contestants, representing schools across nine Indian cities, at the grand finale on February 6, at Hyderabad. The other seven venues are Kolhapur, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Chennai, Goa, Delhi and Chandigarh.

Amaron Karting Challenge (AKC) Season 3 champion will be given scholarship of up to Rs 10 lakhs and top three Season 3 national racers will get autographed helmets of F1 driver Karun Chandok, F2 champ and GP2 driver Armaan Ebrahim and VW Schirocco Cup driver Aditya Patel.

The winner, apart from being nurtured by Amaron Pro Racing Academy with MECO Motorsports to race in the Rotax Max National Karting Championship, will further support the winner to get into international racing as part of a scholarship programme.

Akbhar Ebrahim, Coach Team Amaron Pro Racing (APR), will be present for Mumbai flag-off along with Mackinlay Barreto, APR Head. This year, support races will be organised targeting students (16-plus age group) from 250 colleges and working pros from 100 corporate houses.

Collegians, corporate racers will not compete for AKC Season 3 trophy, these support races will be feeder to 2011 season of Volkswagen Polo Cup. The officials will monitor lap times of all participants and talented participants will be invited for the VW Polo Cup 2011 final shootout. AKC Season 3 is supported by Microsoft Live@Edu, Times Zigwheels, Times NiE, Volkswagen India and Web 18.
