Punjab, UP in last four

Punjab defeated Haryana 5-1 to enter the semifinals of the inaugural junior national hockey championship (under-20) at Gachibowli Complex here on Sunday.

In the other quarterfinal, Uttar Pradesh downed a fighting Steel Authority of India, Rourkela, 4-3.

The results: Punjab 5 (Satbir Singh, Gagandeep Singh Sr, Gagandeep Singh Jr, Gurjant Sinth, Ramandeep Singh) bt Haryana 1 (Dilbagh Singh).

UP 4 (Sunil Yadav 3, Deepak Singh) bt SAIL Rourkela 3 (Dilip Toppo, Alsem Lakra, Ajuib Ekka).
