There was no end to the Indian women’s hockey team’s misery as it went down 2-6 to New Zealand in the final match for a 0-5 whitewash on Saturday.

The Black Sticks were untroubled from the start with Olivia Merry converting a splendid field goal in the fourth minute of the first quarter. She came up with another field goal in the 15th minute. Deep Grace Ekka successfully converted a penalty corner for India to make it 2-1.

New Zealand fought back with Pippa Hayward earning the third goal in the 27th minute. Skipper Rani reduced the margin in the 33rd minute from a penalty corner before New Zealand scored three goals in four minutes.

The result: New Zealand 6 (Olivia Merry 2, Pippa Hayward, Natasha Fitzsimons, Samantha Harrison, Kirsten Pearce) bt India 2 (Deep Grace Ekka, Rani).
