Players yet to receive cash awards

January 16, 2012 12:55 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:06 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Indian hockey captain Bharat Chetri said the players were yet to receive the cash awards announced by various state governments following the side's title win in the Asian Champions Trophy last year.

Haryana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh had announced cash awards for the hockey players following their fine performance in the inaugural continental event in September last. “No state has given any money. The team gets demotivated when they promise something and do not give it,” Chetri told reporters on Sunday.

“I feel it was only a publicity stunt because it has been four months since the announcement,” he added.
