Bert van Marwijk is close to renewing his contract as Netherlands national team coach until 2016, according to Monday’s edition of the daily De Telegraaf .
“There is a big chance of a swift agreement ... Both parties want to continue. Things are looking good. We are talking about a contract until 2016,” the paper quoted Van Marwijk’s advisor Rob Jansen as saying.
Van Marwijk, 59, took the job in 2008 in succession to Marco van Basten on a contract until Euro 2012.
He led the team into the 2010 World Cup final and the Dutch won nine of 10 games in an impressive qualifying campaign for Euro 2012.
A contract renewal would see Van Marwijk in charge at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and Euro 2016 in France. De Telegraaf also said that Van Marwijk would not have a release clause for a European top club.
