TALKING TACTICS

Conte could surprise Pochettino by deploying a 4-4-2 and pushing David Luiz into midfield to disrupt Tottenham’s rhythm and shadow Mousa Dembele. The Brazilian has the ability to bring the ball out from defence and sneak into the box unnoticed.

Luiz’s precise long balls to Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi should also keep the rival centre-backs on their toes.

In this scheme, Conte could ask his front four to press sporadically and not to lose their shape, allowing Spurs’ centre-backs time on the ball.

Spurs’ left-sided centre-back Jan Vertonghen will look to bring the ball forward and combine with Ben Watson to overload the left-flank. Dembele, Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen will join them to feed Dele Alli and Harry Kane.

When not in possession, the Spurs front-men will harry Chelsea’s centre-backs and force them to play long balls. Holding a high line, the Spurs back three, using their height advantage, will look to close down aggressively and regain possession.

Pochettino is expected to order his right-back to pound Chelsea’s box with teasing crosses for Kane and Alli to redirect into the goal.

Though Conte is known for his meticulous approach in readying his team for each challenge, Pochettino is likely to outwit him this time.
