September 21, 2011 02:37 am | Updated 02:37 am IST - Pune:

I-League Champion Salgaocar registered its first victory in the 33rd Federation Cup football tournament when it routed Hindustan Aeronautics Limited 4-0 in a one-sided match here on Tuesday.

Salgaocar was the overwhelming winner as it attacked the rival defence almost at will after an initial resistance by HAL. Once Ryuji Suekoa converted from the spot in the 26th minute, after Chidi Edeh was brought down in the box, the floodgates were opened.

Rocus Lamare doubled the lead in the 29th minute and then in the 32nd minute, Chidi made it 3-0 with a diving header. Chidi dived forward to meet a low Gilbert Oliviera centre in the air and sent it past the rival goalkeeper Pramod.

Changing over, captain Luciano Sabrosa headed in Salgaocar's fourth goal in the 52nd minute to complete the rout.

Salgaocar is now on four points from two matches while HAL is yet to open its account.
