Real Kashmir all set for I-League debut

Real Kashmir FC’s day of reckoning will arrive on Wednesday when it takes on defending champion Minerva Punjab in its debut I-League match here.

The first team from Kashmir Valley to qualify for the league will get a taste of India’s top-flight competition in a clash between the champions of first and second tiers of Indian club football.

Srinagar-based Real Kashmir won the second division league to make it to the top tier while Minerva lifted its maiden crown the previous season.

The Punjab side will begin as favourite but it will not be an easy outing against an opponent coached by former Scottish international David Robertson, who played top flight football in his country and had managerial level assignments in other countries.

Real Kashmir has been waiting for this moment since winning the second division league earlier this year and it has even roped in Adidas as its kit sponsor.

The team has nothing to lose and will only gain experience as the league progresses.

Minerva, on the other hand, will be going into the game after playing a goalless draw against Churchill at the same venue.
