Argentine football legend Diego Maradona said in remarks published on Saturday that he was ready to appear in court in his homeland to prove that bribery accusations he made against former Argentina coach Sergio Batista are true.

Maradona told the Dubai-based Al Emirat Al Youm newspaper that he was ready to travel to Argentina to “prove the facts I know.” Argentine authorities want to cross-examine Maradona on his allegations that Batista had received bribes from players in the national football squad to field them in games, Argentine media reported.

Batista has threatened legal action against Maradona.

Maradona told the Dubai-based newspaper he had never taken bribes, either as a player or a coach.

In September, his former aide, Gabriel Buono, said Maradona was also corrupt.

Maradona is the manager of the United Arab Emirates club Al-Wasl.
