Germany coach Joachim Loew has called up Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller for the upcoming friendlies against Italy and England.
Loew says the 33-year-old Weidenfeller is being called up for the games in Milan and London on November 15 and 19, respectively, for his “consistently strong performances” for Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is out of both games after Bayern Munich announced on Friday he would need another operation on his right ankle, but Lazio striker Miroslav Klose is back in the squad, as is Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer.
Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski, Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez and Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan all remain out due to injury.
Loew says he is happy with every opportunity to test players and tactics with the World Cup next year.
