Indian Bank cashes in

February 03, 2012 04:31 am | Updated 04:31 am IST - CHENNAI:

S. Karthik's brace and a goal each from the Nigerian trio of Useni Joshua Oshagve, Maduabuchi Nick Ohaba, and Bienvenue Ukizemwabo helped Indian Bank hand RPF a 5-0 thrashing in a St. Joseph's-CFA senior division football match on Thursday.

Any control that RPF had on the match was restricted to the first three minutes, when it showed intent. From there on, it was the bank side which dominated proceedings.

Despite coming close to scoring on several times, the account was opened only in the 25th minute. Ohaba, receiving a through pass from A. Prem Kumar in the middle, coolly sent home a left-footer.

Indian Bank went 2-0 up after N. Tino brought down Useni. The latter converted the spot kick in the 41st minute.

The second half was only an extension of the team's assertive showing. S. Karthik scored in the 56th minute after his clumsy strike from inside the box deflected off the rival keeper. Karthik pushed in the rebound.

He brought up his second goal in identical fashion in the 81st minute. The agony was complete when Bienvenue, who replaced an injured Ohaba, notched up a goal in the second and final minute of injury time.

The score would have been more lopsided had Indian Bank not missed some easy chances. Useni was named man-of-the-match.

Earlier, in a first division game, Chennai City Police played out a goalless draw with Nethaji.

The result: Indian Bank 5 (Maduabuchi Nick Ohaba 25, Useni Joshua Oshagve 41, S. Karthik 56 & 81, Bienvenue Ukizemwabo 90+2 ).
