GoalControl to provide goal-line technology at Confed Cup

German company GoalControl GmbH has been picked to provide goal-line technology (GLT) at the Confederations Cup and, if successful, will also be at the 2014 World Cup, football’s ruling body FIFA said on Tuesday.

FIFA said in a statement that that GoalControl beat three other licensed bidders in the tender. Final approval will come after tests by an independent institute once the technology is set up in all Brazilian stadiums for the June 15-30 tournament.

GoalControl uses 14 high-speed cameras around the pitch as part of its 4D system to detect whether a ball has crossed the line.

The decision-making International Football Association Board had last year given the nod to an introduction of GLT, which was tested for the first time at the World Club Cup in December.
