US and Portugal enjoy first water break of World Cup

“We have seen the first water break of the World Cup,” FIFA announced on its Twitter account.  

The US and Portugal teams enjoyed the first official water break of the World Cup when referee Nestor Pitana allowed them to get a drink late in the first half.

Officially referees are obliged to stop the game for cooling breaks if the temperature exceeds 32 degrees.

The temperature at half-time in the game in Manaus was only 27 degrees but players have complained since the start of the tournament of the high humidity in the Amazonian city.
