Federation Cup semis and final at Kolkata

Kolkata will host the final, semifinals and a part of the quarterfinal group league of the 33rd Federation Cup which begins in the third week of September, according to the competition calendar released by the All India Football Federation.

The qualifying round of the tournament will begin on September 8 while the main quarterfinal stage will start on September 17. Pune will host the other quarterfinals.

The qualifying stage will have seven second division I-League teams vying for two places in the main stage. The quarterfinal final stage will divide the 14 elite I-league sides and the two qualifiers into two groups. Pune will host one group of the quarterfinals stage to decide the two semifinal spots, from September 17 to 22 while Kolkata will host the other group for the remaining two spots, from September 18 to 23.

The final knockout stage will be held in Kolkata, with the semifinals on September 26 and 27 and the final on September 30.

The preliminary qualifying stage has Mohammedan Sporting, Vasco SC and Ar-Hima in Group A while Southern Samity, United Sikkim, Royal Wahingdoh and ONGC are clubbed in Group B. The preliminaries will be held between September 8 and 13, and one team from each group will move into the quarterfinals.

The I-League is scheduled to get underway on October 22; the detailed fixtures of which will be worked out later. — Principal Correspondent
