Liverpool believes Fernando Torres’s left groin injury is not as serious as first feared when the Spain striker was injured in the World Cup final.
Torres struggled to make the tournament after missing the end of Liverpool’s season with a right knee injury and he made little impact in South Africa.
He pulled up with an injury shortly after coming off the bench during Sunday’s 1—0 win over the Netherlands.
Liverpool’s medical chief Peter Brukner has been in contact with Spain team doctors, who plan to assess the injury on Tuesday.
Brukner says that “it’s an adductor muscle injury ... at this stage we don’t think it’s too serious.”
Liverpool says Torres shouldn’t be sidelined for “too long.”
