Sunil Chetri's hat-trick sinks Vietnam

Sunil Chetri's hat-trick, marked by opportunism, drowned Vietnam 3-1 in the second international friendly at the Balewadi Sports Complex.

The visitor, ranked 125th on the FIFA list, scored a consolation goal when Vu Nhu Thang converted a penalty.

Chetri put the home team ahead in the 26th minute, firing home past goalkeeper Duong's legs. He beat the rival custodian for speed after both went for the lobbing ball, the Indian reacted faster.

Vietnam was stunned by India's second goal, Chetri smarter in anticipation and connection to get within range of an Anthony Pereira centre, completing the diagonal run with a first-time deflection. The visitor, outrun and outclassed till then, reduced the margin via a penalty conversion by Thang. The Indian spearhead completed his hat-trick by slotting a loose ball with his left, attempted with back to goal.
