AS VIBRANT AS EVER: Diego Maradona

Argentine coach Diego Maradona has gone on the attack once again with Pele, Michel Platini and the World Cup ball all attracting some criticism.

“Pele should go back to the museum” said Maradona in response to comments made by the Pele on Monday.

Pele had said: “Maradona accepted the job of national coach because he needed the money. I saw the difficulties they had in qualification but it is not his fault. It is the fault of whoever gave him the job.”

“Another thing is the ball,” went on Maradona. “I don’t want to say too much because the players have already spoken about it. It is making a big difference. I would ask Pele and Platini to look at it and ask themselves is this like the ball that we played with.”

Speaking on Wednesday ahead of Argentina’s second World Cup game against South Korea, Maradona added: “They need to decide if the ball is good or bad and stop uttering nonsense about me.” Turning his attention to Platini he said: “He does not surprise me because we have always had a distant relationship — goodbye, hello and nothing else. We all know what the French are like. Platini thinks he is better than everyone else. I never pay much attention to him.”
