Germany’s Thomas Mueller is poised to win the Golden Boot as World Cup top-scorer if David Villa and Wesley Sneijder fail to score in the final between Spain and the Netherlands.

Mueller, Spain’s Villa, the Netherlands’ Sneijder and Uruguay’s Diego Forlan have each scored five goals but the 20-year-old German leads the tiebreaker with the most assists.

He has assisted teammates to score three times, while the other trio has one assist apiece.

Villa and Sneijder can overtake Mueller by scoring in Sunday’s World Cup final at Soccer City.

If either Villa or Sneijder assists on two goals, the award will go to whoever has played the fewest minutes during the tournament to achieve his combined goals and assists total.
