Liverpool’s recovery under Kenny Dalglish continued on Wednesday as they beat Fulham 1-0.
A second successive win lifted Liverpool to seventh, within sight of European qualification.
This was by no means as fluent a performance as they produced in beating Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, though, and the only goal was an own goal from John Panstil.
Liverpool began well and had the ball in the net after seven minutes, Fernando Torres seizing on a Raul Meireles through-ball, only to be denied — incorrectly — by the linesman’s flag.
After a bright opening, though, Liverpool faded, and the best chance of the half fell to Fulham, Moussa Dembele driving straight at Pepe Reina from eight yards out.
The lead arrived seven minutes into the second half, Pantsil, under pressure from Meireles, seeming to hinder his goalkeeper David Stockdale before slicing the ball into his own net. It was messy thereafter, but for Liverpool at the moment points matter far more than prettiness.
