KFA to stage Friendship Cup 2010

Araldite Kenkre Football Academy believes 90 minutes can make a world of difference through the universal language of football.

Two days after World Cup 2010 kicks off in South Africa, KFA will stage the Friendship Cup 2010 to give kids and youth an opportunity to live our their fantasies on the football field.

Teams in the Friendship Cup will be named after the 32 World Cup national squads, teams playing kit will be as per country colours. The event will be held from May 13 to 20, 2010 under floodlights at Dadar Parsee Gymkhana, Dadar (East). Boys event category is from U-10 to U-19, girls events in U-13, U-16 and open.

Adeep Kenkre, founder, reasons: “The goal of World Cup this year is reconciliation and nation-building. Replicating this view, we at KFA aim to make the city a better and united place to live in through football. Our aim is to give children the chance to play their favourite game and experience the fight for victory with ethos and love for the sport. We encourage young minds to develop as players and more importantly as people through football.”

The Friendship Cup 2010 is aimed at uniting the teams in friendship, just like the football pitch provides a common ground for integration.

“With participation of teams all over Mumbai representing different countries, this event promises to be a great playing experience for the kids,” says the ex-Central Railway midfielder and coach.

Araldite Kenkre FA youngsters figure in India junior squads, the latest being Aurochit Patnaik representing India U-14 squad at the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) U 14 Football Festival at Hamedan City, Iran last month. Araldite Kenkre FC finished third behind I-League sides Air India and Mumbai FC in the city league this season.

Team names as per 32 countries participating in the FIFA World Cup 2010. Playing kits as per country representation. Tournament under floodlights, along with penalty shootout event.

5000 children and youth from Mumbai competing, representing different schools, colleges and NGOs. Age groups Boys U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16, U-19 and Girls U-13, U-16, open category.

Venue: Dadar Parsi Colony Gymkhana grounds, Dadar (East).
