Brazil is overwhelming choice of Internet users to win the World Cup, according to a global survey released by the research group Nielsen.

Some 34 per cent of those quizzed saw the five-time world champions reclaiming the title in South Africa. Among Brazilians, 86 per cent saw their team winning the final on July 11.

Argentina, England, Germany and the US, all tied for second with each earning approval from 9 per cent of those surveyed. Only 6 per cent believe titleholders Italy will retain their crown.

Spain, the European champions and bookmakers’ favourite, were tipped by 8 per cent to win.

Some 27,000 people from 55 nations took part in the survey that was conducted in March, Nielsen said on Wednesday.
