Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said his team will finish in the Premier League’s top four next season and qualify for the Champions League under new coach Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking during his team’s U.S. tour, the midfielder told Friday’s Liverpool Echo that the club “can’t finish eighth” — as it did last season.

Gerrard said “I think we will get in the top four. I am confident we will get it.”

Avoiding any talk of winning the league title, the England captain added - “I don’t think a team has ever gone from eighth to first in one season.”

Gerrard was upbeat about Rodgers’ presence, saying - “Every time you speak to him you can’t help but be impressed.”

Liverpool begins its Premier League campaign at West Bromwich Albion on August 18.
