Manchester United fans are waiting to hear details from a group of financiers looking into a bid to oust the Glazer family owners.
The discussions, which are in their early stages, are being led by football deal broker Keith Harris, chairman of investment bankers Seymour Pierce, and Jim O’Neill, chief economist at Goldman Sachs.
But it would take around one billion pounds ($1.48 billion) to buy the 18-time English champions and the Glazers have consistently insisted that the debt-ridden club is not for sale.
Debt arising from Malcolm Glazer’s 2005 takeover has risen to 716.5 million pounds ($1.1 billion).
And United slipped to third place in the list of football’s biggest revenue generators, which was released on Tuesday.
