Injured Ivory Coast star striker Didier Drogba took part in light training on Sunday as the African nation prepares to face off against Portugal.
The Ivory news agency aip reported that the Chelsea goal scorer was back on the pitch after skipping Saturday’s morning training session to receive treatment to his broken arm.
Drogba’s status for Ivory Coast’s opening Group G match on Tuesday against Portugal remains a question mark.
“We still cannot say anything for certain yet. We will not decide until the final moments if he can play against Portugal or not. We will not let him play unless we have no doubts,” said Ivory coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Drogba broke his right arm after a clash with Japan’s Marcus Tulio Tanaka during a friendly in Switzerland on June 4.
Portugal’s Paulo Ferreira hopes his Chelsea teammate will not be available on Tuesday.
“Drogba is very important for the Ivory Coast. He has scored a lot of goals for his country and he would be a big loss for any team at a World Cup if he could not play,” Ferreira told the website goal.com .
“He missing the game would be a big loss for the team, but you cannot concentrate on one player ... But of course I hope that he cannot play when we play against Ivory Coast. It would clearly be better for us!”
