Manchester City on Thursday agreed to a 17-million-pound ($26-million) fee for Lazio left-back Aleksandar Kolarov.
The 24-year-old Serbia international has yet to agree to personal terms and is understood to have been the subject of interest from Real Madrid, Juventus and Internazionale.
An attacking player noted for his ball-striking from set-pieces, Kolarov would provide competition for Wayne Bridge.
This summer, City have already signed defender Jerome Boateng, winger David Silva and midfielder Yaya Toure for combined fees of more than 60 million pounds.
City are also targeting Aston Villa midfielder James Milner, Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko and Inter forward Mario Balotelli.
