Brazil vs North Korea - As it happened

Hello and welcome to our live updates of Brazil vs North Korea.

This one is surely for the romantics. Brazil, according to many, will canter to a record sixth World Cup triumph while North Korea, according to many, is just here to make up the numbers.

Will North Korea, 44 years after beating Italy in England, do an other giant killing act? Will Brazil, put out the joga bonito on display?

The team news is in:-

Brazil Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Juan, Felipe Melo, Michel Bastos, Elano, Gilberto Silva, Luis Fabiano, Kaka, Robinho

North Korea Ri Myong-guk, Cha Jong-hyok, Ri Jun-il, Pak Nam-chol, Ri Kwang-chon, Pak Chol-jin, An Yong-hak, Ji Yun-nam, Mun In-guk, Hong Yong-jo, Jong Tae-se.

As we build-up to the game, >here's a slideshow of the most talked about thing in South Africa and everywhere else in the World: vuvuzelas.

Brazil, in the recent past, has been criticised. Their rigid 4-2-3-1 formation not really endorsing the way Brazil used to swagger in the old days. But Dunga, their head coach, thinks the critics have got it wrong according to >this report.

The teams are out and the national anthems are being sung. Lots of romance in this match. Can North Korea do the unthinkable? We are just seconds away from kick-off.

A North Korean player is already in tears as the North Korean national anthem echoes around the stadium.

A team which knows everything about the world stage against the team which would not even be dreaming about the world stage in the normal scheme of things. David vs Goliath.

North Korea to kick-off proceedings and they will be playing from left to right on your TV screens.

2nd minute Robinho does a couple of step-overs before trying to create havoc in the North Korean box. But they somehow clear it.

A big World Cup this for Robinho. Currently on loan at Santos, he would look to impress visiting club scouts from Europe which would again take him to a big club in Europe. An added incentive then for Robinho to do well.

5th minute A decent cross from the right finds a North Korean player but his touch lets him down and goes behind for a goal kick.

7th minute Elano, from about 30 yards, shoots with his left foot but the ball flies into the stand. An immediate Brazil attack sees Robinho work his magic before shooting wide. The Selecao has started well.

10th minute Some sweet Brazil passing comes to nothing as Bastos sees his long range effort go wide.

11th minute The North Koreans have held their own in the opening stages and now work a nice little move. Tae-se, the Asian Wayne Rooney, makes some space before driving a low shot from inside the 18-yard area. But keeper Cesar holds it comfortably.

13th minute Maicon drives in a cross from the right but the North Korean defenders do not clear it properly. Fabiano picks up the pieces and shoots it but the North Korean keeper saves.

17th minute They fashion another opening but Jong-Hyok Cha shoots over from outside the box. They are playing like a very organised team.

19th minute A North Korean mid-fielder thinks he has seen Cesar off his line and tries an audacious chip from just near the centre circle but Cesar again holds.

21st minute Fabiano slips in Robinho with an inch-perfect pass but the latter shoots it straight at the keeper. Robinho has already had a couple of chances.

23rd minute A long ball from Elano is cut out by the North Koreans before Robinho can chase it down.

26th minute Tae-se shows a clean set of studs to a Brazilian player before firing in a rising shot with his left foot from a very difficult angle. The ball, predictably, goes behind for a goal kick.

27th minute Signs of frustration or self confidence? Maicon, with lots of options, decides to shoot from 25-yards out which is palmed behind for a corner. The resultant corner comes to nothing. The North Koreans have given a very good account of themselves.

31st minute A very nice attacking move from the left before Jong Tae-se runs at Lucio. But the Inter Milan man puts it behind for a corner.

34th minute With a sea of red standing just in front of the 18-yard box, Robinho is forced to abort his foray into the box and passes it to Bastos whose long range effort is deflected behind.

Just eight minutes plus stoppages to go for half time.

39th minute Again some staunch defending from North Korea. Elano has a couple of chances to put in a cross but his efforts are repelled.

42nd minute The story of the half. Robinho's skills can't get him past some very close scrutiny. This has been a great defensive performance from North Korea.

The camera pans towards the Brazil bench as half time looms. Would love to be a fly-on-the-wall inside the Brazilian dressing room if the score remains the same at half time.

45th minute Bastos sees another effort go wide.

The whistle goes for half time. The world's most famous World Cup team is being held by the least known team of this World Cup.

The North Korean defence has held its own against some decent Brazilian attacks but the Samba Boys have not gotten out of second gear. At the other end, the North Koreans fashioned a couple of half chances.

Join us in a couple of minutes for the second half.

The players have come out for the second half and we are just seconds away from kick-off. History could be in the making, folks. Hold on to your hats (or seat belts).

It has kicked-off

46th minute Elano wants to break the deadlock very early in the second half and goes for goal from 30 yards out. But his shot is blocked.

49th minute A sequence of passes, which also involved Kaka running down a potential cul-de-sac, sees Elano waste it with another long range effort.

50th minute Another attack sees Robinho's effort blocked. And Kaka, from the subsequent attack, earns a free-kick from the edge of the box which interests Bastos and Kaka. It's Bastos who takes it but his ripping drive goes agonisingly wide of the post.

52nd minute Maicon earns a corner as his cross from the byline is deflected behind. Then, Maicon does some histrionics urging the crowd to get behind the Samba Boys.

53rd minute Another attack sees Robinho shooting wide from just outside the box. A monumental defensive display so far from the North Koreans who have a corner at the other end.

55th minute Brazil 1-0 North Korea. Maicon runs on to a delightful pass, by Elano, down the right before whipping in a low shot and it beats the keeper to nestle in the back of the net. A cruel blow for the North Koreans. A shot from a very acute angle but Maicon beat the keeper in his near post. A classic goal really. With everyone expecting Maicon to cut back for a fellow Brazilian, including the keeper, he curls it beautifully with the outside of his right foot. A goal worthy to start Brazil's account.

61st minute He will keep trying all day. From 22 yards out, Bastos cracks a super shot but it goes straight to the keeper who fumbles it. But there's no impending danger.

63rd minute A well crafted Brazilian move sees Kaka finding Fabiano with a great ball but the latter's shot, he did well to take it down from his chest, sees his effort go over the bar. My aplogies but it was Robinho who fed in Fabiano.

72nd minute Brazil 2-0 North Korea. The game had just reached a static point. But Brazil bring it back to life. Robinho, near the attacking third, plays in Elano with an inch-perfect pass who times his run perfectly and sidefoots it into the net. A simple goal with such stunning precision.

Meanwhile, Alves replaces Elano.

78th minute Nilmar replaces Kaka. The Real Madrid man has been largely subdued.

80th minute Nilmar immediately gets on the ball but his effort is saved by the keeper. The North Koreans look deflated but they can be very proud of their performance.

In-Guk replaced by K-I Kum.

82nd minute A free-kick from North Korea wakes up Cesar from his slumber. He comes out and makes a simple catch. Cesar has not been disturbed this half.

83rd minute Lucio finds himself on unchartered territory - Brazil's attacking third - and takes a wild swing at the ball which bobbles to the keeper.

84th minute Ramires, who would have expected to start the game, replaces Melo.

85th minute Maicon again goes on a marauding run down the right. His cross reaches Nilmar whose snap shot is fired straight at the keeper.

86th minute Now then, something different. Jong Tae-se puts on his accelators and is almost clear but Juan stretches and just reaches in time to put the ball behind for a corner.

88th minute We have the first booking of the game. Ramires goes into a book for a late challenge.

89th minute Brazil 2-1 North Korea. What a change to the complexion of the game. A long searching ball finds J. Tae Se who cushions a perfect header on to the path of J. Yun Nam who shows some deft skills before smashing it past a diving Julio Cesar. J. Yun Nam has just become a North Korean hero.

It might just be a consolation but they will talk about that for ages.

90th minute Jong Tae Se sees an effort go over the bar. It would have been a smash and grab if that had gone in.

The final whistle has been blown to signal the end of what has been a very absorbing encounter. North Korea brought out their "A" game to the table and the Selecao had to dig very hard for the points.

The match was supposed to be a mismatch, but North Korea had other ideas. They gave Brazil more than they bargained for and came out of the game with their heads held high. Brazil have got the points on the board but it could have been a very different story.

Join us tomorrow for the Spain vs Switzerland encounter which kicks-off at 19:30 IST.
