David Beckham’s return wasn’t enough inspiration for the Los Angeles Galaxy in a 0-0 draw with D.C. United in Major League Soccer.
Beckham served a one-game suspension for a red card given the previous weekend against Seattle. The Galaxy beat Chicago 2-0 on Wednesday without their English star but couldn’t find the net in soggy conditions at RFK Stadium in Washington, where Beckham made his MLS debut just over two years ago.
The Galaxy, unbeaten in their last six away games, remained second in the Western Conference and fourth overall.
United is winless in four and has slipped to fourth in the Eastern Conference. Chivas 2, Toronto 0. In Los Angeles, Chivas notched its first home win since early June, overcoming Toronto.
Both goals came from playmaker Sacha Kljestan, who also broke a drought by finding the net for his first goals of the season.
The opening goal came in the 32nd minute when Toronto was unable to clear a corner. The ball was whipped back across the face of goal where Cuban forward Maykel Galindo nodded it down for Kljestan to knock it home.
It was 2-0 in the 51st as Brazilian striker Maicon Santos played a through ball for Kljestan to curl it into the net. San Jose 1, Kansas City 0.
In San Jose, striker Chris Wondolowski scored in second-half stoppage-time to give San Jose a dramatic win over Kansas City.
With the clock ticking down, Wondolowski glanced a header from captain Ramiro Corrales’ cross, sending it inside the far post. Kansas City is winless in five games.
