2014 WC preliminary draw moved back to July 31, 2011

The draw for the qualifying rounds of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil has been moved back six months to July 31, 2011, officials said on Thursday.

Ricardo Teixeira, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), said the decision was made in order to take account of the qualifying tournament for the Asian Confederation.

The venue for the draw, which was originally slated for January 30 next year, still has to be decided.

According to Teixeira, a local organising committee for the next World Cup has also yet to be formed.

The 2014 tournament will be staged from June 13 to July 13, 2014 in 12 venues across Brazil.

The South American nation, which last hosted the World Cup in 1950, is also slated to stage the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2015 Copa America as well as the 2016 Olympics.
