Roger Federer reached a record 28th straight Grand Slam quarterfinal by defeating Davis Cup teammate Stanislas Wawrinka 6—3, 6—2, 7—5 at the French Open on Sunday.

The third—seeded Federer has yet to lose a set this year at Roland Garros and will next face either No. 7 David Ferrer or No. 9 Gael Monfils.

Federer won the title in Paris in 2009 and was knocked out in the quarterfinals last year.

He broke for a 6—5 lead in the third set when the 14th—seeded Wawrinka buried an easy volley in the net before serving out the match.

Federer and Wawrinka won the men’s doubles gold at the 2008 Olympics.
