Yuvraj Singh, hero of India’s victorious campaign in the 2011 World Cup, expects “special performances” from all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the 2019 edition, beginning May 30 in the UK.

Yuvraj Singh played a brand of cricket that impressed the purists and the fans alike.

A star of the 2011 World Cup played in India, the left-hander, who struck the ball hard and long, is impressed by the form displayed by his Mumbai Indians teammate Hardik Pandya in IPL 12.

“I hope he has an awesome World Cup. I told him yesterday [after the match against Sunrissers Hyderabad] that he has a great chance of performing really well with the ball and bat. He is in that kind of good form at the moment. His batting has been phenomenal and I hope he carries that form [into the World Cup]. He has been bowling well in patches.”

Asked to comment on his ability to hit the bowlers straight and clear the field, Yuvraj said, “That’s because he is probably in the best shape as a batsman. I have been watching him since the practice games. After seeing the way he was hitting the ball, I told him it [this IPL] is going to be a special tournament for him. He got 91 from 34 balls against KKR, probably that is the best innings I have seen in the IPL just because he hit four quality bowlers.”
