World Sport Group (WSG) has signed talented Indian middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara under its player-management programme. The Test batsman from Saurashtra is the third cricketer on the shortlist, after Sachin Tendulkar and opener Gautam Gambhir.
Harish Krishnamachar, WSG country head and senior VP, made the announcement on Monday.
Pujara has so far played three Tests since his debut against Australia at Bangalore in the 2010 home series.
He has been a prolific scorer for Saurashtra and West Zone in first-class cricket.
Currently back after a knee surgery, he is playing the West Zone Ranji Trophy one-day tournament for Saurashtra in Mumbai.
Krishnamachar said: “We believe Cheteshwar Pujara has the potential to be among the top five cricketers of the next generation.
Blessed with solid technique, he impressed critics and experts and big scores in domestic cricket make him a cricketer to watch out for.
“We believe in working with a select group of players. The basis of our choice of who we can work with is that the player is focused on his on-field performance.
