As it happened: India suffers huge loss

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat against India in the opening game of World T20, in Nagpur.

While India would be hoping to put it across New Zealand, the Kane Williamson-led side would be determined to play an aggressive brand of cricket that former captain Brendon McCullum espoused to follow.

New Zealand pulled off sensational 47-run win over India thanks to a brilliant performance by the spinners with left-armer Mitchel Santner being outstanding with figures of four for 11.

Chasing a modest target of 127, India was bowled out for 79 in 18.1 overs to the dismay of the near-capacity crowd.

The imposing Indian batting line-up with some explosive hitters came a cropper in the face of accurate bowling by slow bowlers — off-spinner Nathan McCullum, Santner and leg-break bowler Ish Sodhi (4-0-18-3).

Captain M.S. Dhoni provided some cheer scoring 30 (30b, 1 x 4, 1 x 6) but it was a virtual parade at the other end

This win also meant that New Zealand maintained its unbeaten record against India.
