‘We saw the ugly side of cricket'

September 12, 2011 02:26 am | Updated 02:26 am IST - London:

M.S. Dhoni said that during the rain breaks, he and the team was not sure about the result.

“Some of our players thought we had won but then it was all confusing.

“Finally in the dressing room we got the sheet that mentioned the par score and we understood that it was a tie.

“We wanted to go out and play but you cannot do anything against the weather,” the Indian captain said here on Sunday.

The approach

Referring to the approach of both teams with regard to the Duckworth-Lewis equation, Dhoni said: “Frankly speaking we just saw the ugly side of cricket.

“Whichever team has the upper hand doesn't want to play and the team not on the winning side will stick around and even play football if the result is changing.

“I think that's part and parcel of cricket. That's what people do and both the sides did that.”

The skipper said that the team did well in notching a good score and credited it to the partnership between him and Suresh Raina.

“It was a good partnership between me and Raina. Initially we wanted to conserve wickets and then get the runs,” Dhoni said.

Speaking about England's visit to India in October for a five-match ODI series, Dhoni said: “Many of our key players will be back after recovering from injuries and it will be a good series.”

England's hero Ravi Bopara said that he wanted to finish the match on a winning note.

“I wanted to win the match for England. I didn't want a tie,” he said.
