Mahela Jayawardene attributed Sri Lanka's loss against Pakistan to a top-order collapse that ruined his decision to bat first.
“When you win the toss and opt to bat, it is important that you put runs on the board but we did not do that. Kumar Sangakkara and Upul Tharanga did their best. Tharanga got a good ball (from Saeed Ajmal) in the batting Power Play and later our bowlers tried their best.
“Lasith Malinga is a kind of bowler who likes to attack and at times he goes for runs but as long as he tries to attack, that is fine with me,” the Sri Lankan captain said.
Improved show
Misbah-ul-Haq on the other hand dealt with the improved show of his middle-order that helped Pakistan get past its rival.
“We did not finish matches against England in the United Arab Emirates and this victory is a confidence booster. The pressure was on Sri Lanka to get wickets while we were in no hurry. That helped Umar Akmal and me to bat well,” the Pakistan captain said.
Misbah also refused to add more pressure on the match against India on March 18. “We just want to give our 100 per cent,” he said.
