Paceman Shardul Thakur had been widely criticised for wearing a jersey with No. 10 on his ODI debut in Sri Lanka last month. Having returned to the squad, the Mumbai bowler has changed it to 54.
With No. 10 synonymous with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, social media went berserk over the Mumbai bowler’s choice.
Despite the bowler’s clarification that he had picked the number due to numerological reasons, he was slammed for allegedly not showing respect to Tendulkar.
On his return to the Indian squad, Thakur didn’t make the playing XI on his home turf on Sunday. However, during the warm-ups, he was seen wearing the new jersey. One wonders whether the bowler had a change of heart or was instructed to do so!
