Ravi Shastri checks in for his new assignment

Shastri was expected to hold closed-door meetings with Duncan Fletcher and M.S. Dhoni, in what was basically a stock-taking exercise following India's debacle in the just-concluded Test series.

Ravi Shastri, who has been appointed as the Indian team's director for the ensuing ODI series against England, strode into London's central business district around Tuesday noon.

The former India captain fulfilled his prior television commitments and immediately reached the team hotel.

As he walked into the lobby, media manager Dr. R.N. Baba whisked him away through a side entrance that led to a restaurant, the central courtyard and the rooms.

In a sense, it was a day of arrivals as the ODI specialists like Suresh Raina, Mohit Sharma and new-comer Sanju Samson linked up with the squad.

Shastri meanwhile was expected to hold closed-door meetings with Duncan Fletcher and M.S. Dhoni, in what was basically a stock-taking exercise following India's debacle in the just-concluded Test series.

Later, while Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and others lounged around, a few like Stuart Binny stepped out with their spouses. Shastri meanwhile spoke to board official Sundar Raman and the tone of introspection continued.

It was in keeping with the backroom confabulations that has been happening within the BCCI ever since the Oval Test which India lost by an innings and 244 runs.
