Former Australian vice-captain Geoff Marsh had enough reason to be proud of his son Mitchell, seated alongside him during the post match media conference.
Since retirement, the father, keen to see his sons succeed, had been coaching them.
“The IPL is a big tournament and it gave me an opportunity to not only coach but watch them perform,” said Marsh senior. He laughed off elder son Shaun's suggestion that the father liked Mitchell more. “I like them equally,” he said.
Not surprisingly, more questions centred around Sourav Ganguly's maiden appearance in the IPL.
“Ganguly himself didn't feel too good about his knock today and admitted to being nervous,” said the Pune Warriors coach. On whether the former Indian skipper had been fielded two games too late, Marsh replied, “Ganguly felt he wasn't ready and wanted more nets.”
“Dad wanted me to go out there, have fun and enjoy myself,” said Mitchell about his bowling performance. Asked why he didn't do well when playing for Deccan Chargers last season, Mitchell said, “I'm a lot more relaxed now.”
Irresponsible
Darren Lehmann said it was an irresponsible show by the batsmen. “From 50 for no loss, a total of 150 would have been par,” he said. “The batsmen played silly shots.”
About the positives from this season, Lehmann said his side had a good bunch of players who needed more match awareness since it was mostly a case of being so close and yet so far.
