Hardik Pandya and K.L. Rahul will pay a fine of ₹20 lakh each to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their unsavoury comments on a television chat how. The decision was taken by the BCCI Ombudsman D.K. Jain.

In his order, made public on Saturday, Jain took into account the unconditional apology given by the players for their comments which were condemned widely. The two had been handed a five-match ban too by the Committee of Administrators (CoA).

“The remarks made by the player, even by his own admissions, did offend the sensitivities, which ought to have been avoided,” Jain said.

While observing that Pandya and Rahul were supposed to be role models for the country’s youth, Jain wanted the players to conduct themselves in manner befitting their stature.

According to the order by Jain, the two cricketers have to pay the fine which includes ₹1 lakh to “each of the most deserving widows of ten constables in para-military forces who have lost their lives while on duty, through Bharat Ke Veer App”.

The two have been ordered to deposit ₹10 lakh each in the fund “created by the Cricket Association for the Blind”.

Pandya and Rahul, both part of the Indian team for the forthcoming World Cup, will have to deposit the fine within four weeks.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been asked to give a written submission in the Conflict of Interest case filed against him by three cricket fans.

The BCCI is reportedly backing Ganguly, who is the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal and also mentor of the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Honorary basis

Ganguly’s contention is that he is performing the mentor’s role on honorary basis and was prepared to give up his role in the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which has Sachin Tendulkar and V.V.S. Laxman as the other two members.

Tendulkar and Laxman too are associated with teams in the IPL.
