One of the best I have ever played in T20s: Sehwag

Virender Sehwag was on song… literally. Crooning and humming along to ‘Dum Duma Dum,' the Delhi Daredevils (DD) anthem, he demolished Deccan Chargers in a devastating solo here on Thursday.

The spring in his step spelt doom for the hapless Hyderabad attack, for which, though, it was music of a different kind.

Describing Thursday's 56-ball 119 as his best in Twenty20, he urged himself to “show patience and wait for the spinners or the fourth and fifth bowlers.” “After I got 23 off Ishan Malhotra's over, I got the momentum and felt the target was reachable,” he recounted.

Unsparing

On DD's excessive reliance on his batting, the swashbuckler was unsparing on himself: “Sehwag clicked in only three of 10 games. If Sehwag is also not consistent, why blame others. I've more responsibilities, because I'm more experienced,” he reasoned.

“No one expects DD to reach the semifinals. So we've nothing to lose in playing freely and fearlessly. Like the Chargers winning five in a row last year, I hope it is DD this time, with a little luck,” the master blaster hoped for his side's remaining games. “The crowd here was fantastic, appreciating both teams equally,” he added.

“Catches cost us matches,” rued his Chargers' counterpart Kumar Sangakkara.

“When we don't hold on to the chances created by the bowlers, a batsman of Viru's class will make us pay,” said the former Sri Lankan skipper, who will be available for the next three games.

“Viru was fantastic, paced himself well and didn't try anything extra during the first six overs,” said Sangakkara.
