Andrew McDonald is keen to have more game-time in the Indian Premier League. It is understandable as last year he played a lone match for Delhi Daredevils.
Having signed up with Royal Challengers Bangalore for the IPL's fifth edition, the Australian all-rounder is awaiting more opportunities. “RCB is a fantastic team and it's been a great franchise enjoying success over the years.
“Obviously the last time with Delhi, there wasn't much action there. So I am looking to contribute to the new franchise,” McDonald said during the squad's training stint at the KSCA (B) Ground here on Thursday, while in the background, Chris Gayle had a hit in the nets.
McDonald said that Michael Clarke's maiden foray in the IPL with Pune Warriors, is a welcome development. “Clarke is obviously a big one. For the Australian captain to get on board is a big step. It is probably got to do with the scheduling as the Australians have a bit of a break coming up.
“Of course, when it is a congested season and you got to pick and choose, then country is obviously the priority. Everyone wants to play a part in the IPL and Clarke has now put his hand up. It is good that the best cricketers are playing in the world's best tournament,” the Victorian said. Asked to compare the IPL with the inaugural Big Bash Twenty20 league back home, McDonald said, “Obviously in Australia it's a little bit more bouncy, and out here there are chances of spin. It is hard to judge.”
Meanwhile, Mohammad Kaif too joined the RCB camp, though the spotlight was on Gayle, who warmed up against throw-downs from batting coach Mark O'Donnell.
