Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson appreciated his team’s bowling and fielding after the narrow five-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday.
“The bowling attack has been outstanding and so also the fielding. The brilliance in these departments was the difference in us crossing the line,” said Williamson after SRH’s eighth win in 10 matches.
“The strategy has been pretty simple — take wickets, stem the flow of runs and not allow partnerships. Yes, we could have operated better in the field which I am sure we will do in the remaining games,” said the Kiwi.
Referring to the collapse in the final overs, Williamson felt it was important to go out and play smart cricket. “But, it is very difficult to play with freedom from the first ball on these kind of tracks. Delhi should be a different surface and it is important we prepare well and adapt better,” he said.
Williamson said there was not much of a change either in his batting or captaincy. “I just try to contribute to the team as much as I can in the given role,” he added.
On the repeated success in the middle overs, he said: “We have been playing on these varied surfaces. We just wanted to build pressure so that things can happen. The nature of these strips dictate fighting mentality with the bat and ball,” he said.
Unfortunate
For his part, RCB pace bowler Mohammad Siraj, who finished with a three-wicket haul, felt it was unfortunate that his team lost a crucial match.
“Our bowling was good. The plan was to restrict SRH to a very low score, but we leaked quite a few easy runs,” he said.
Siraj felt the best way forward for his team now was to take it match by match and hopefully win the remaining games.
