Finch, McCullum tame Rising Pune Supergiants

Pune retains the same playing XI while Gujarat makes three changes.

Gujarat Lions once again bowled brilliantly in the middle overs and won the match by 7 wickets against the Rising Pune Supergiants.

Led by some scintillating batting from Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum, the match was a cakewalk for the Lions as they moved past the score with two overs remaining.

With this victory, Gujarat Lions now moves to the top of the table with two wins from two matches.

Ater 18 overs: Gujarat 163 for 3.

13 to win off 18 balls. Bhatia into the attack. quick single for Jadeja. down the leg, wild swish and it is leg bye. A no-ball and it is a free hit. Bravo on strike. A huge hit but could not clear the boundary and only two runs. Another good shot over the cover for a six.

After 17 overs: Gujarat 151 for 3.

17 runs to win from 24 balls. Gujarat is racing now. The team winning will be on top of the table. Both the debut teams have done well so far in the tournament. M. Ashwin strikes after the time-out removing Raina stumped Dhoni. It is one of the trademark stumping from Dhoni. Raina is out for 24. Gujarat Lions 147 for 3. Jadeja is the new man. wide ball. Ishant Sharma into the attack. Strikes it straightaway and McCullum is out for 49. Gujarat 120 for 2. Can Pune spring some surprises here? Dwayne Bravo is the new man. Two runs for Raina. Ishant is bowling beautifully in this over. A sweet shot from Raina for a boundary, a trademark shot from him.

102 to win. Dhoni has to bring all his experience into play to remove these two dangerous players. R. Bhatia into the attack. A good shot from Finch and it went all the way for a six. Finch is moving on, dangerous sign for Pune. Another massive hit and it is another six. Gujarat Lions are in a hurry.

After six overs: Gujarat 62 for no loss. It is strategic time-out.

M. Ashwin into the attack. Last over off the power play. A good shout but no says umpire. Finch smashes the next ball for a boundary. Again a boundary, a sweep shot from Finch. It is fifty for Gujarat. Two boundaries from this over so far. A wide ball and two runs. A sweet shot by Finch and it is another boundary. Three boundaries from this over. A good over for Gujarat Lions. Another boundary to end the over.

After five overs; Gujarat 42 for no loss

R. Ashwin into the attack. McCullum taps the ball on the leg-side for a three. Good over so far from R. Ashwin. Excellent stuff from R. Ashwin. Only four runs off this over

After four overs: Gujarat 38 for no loss

Ishant Sharma continues. Finch on strike. smashes the first ball for a boundary on the off-side. Another good shot over cover by Finch and it is another boundary. 10 runs so far from this over. Two boundaries. A good slower one from Ishant.

After three overs: Gujarat 27 for no loss

RP Singh continues. A good shot and equally good fielding. McCullum smashes the second ball in the offside for a huge six. good comeback ball from RP Singh. Amother what and it is now on the onside and again a six. McCullum is moving on now. dangerous sign for Pune. Two sixes from this over.

After two overs: Gujarat 13 for no loss

Ishant Sharma into the attack. A good shot from Finch and the ball races to the boundary. Finch and McCullum try to move on. excellent comeback ball from Ishant. Ishant after the first ball, bowling brilliantly.

After first over: Gujarat 7 for no loss

RP Singh to start the bowling. McCullum and Finch are at the crease. Finch to take strike. A good start from RP Singh. Another shoult for LBW, a leg bye, misses the leg by inches. A good over so far from RP Singh. McCullum smashes the first ball he faces for a boundary. quick run from these two batsmen. Third umpire decision is not out.

Can Dhoni's men restrict Gujarat Lions batsmen? Pune bowlers bowled brilliantly against Mumbai Indians in the first match. If they repeat that performance, then we are in for a good game.

When Faf du Plessis and Pietersen were batting, it almost looked Pune will reach 200. Gujarat Lions bowlers came back strongly with brilliant stuff from Bravo, Tambe and Jadeja, Pune were restricted to 163 for 5. To me, it is almost 20 runs short. Let us wait and watch the chase of Gujarat Lions which has a strong batting line-up. Last 10 overs only yielded 76 runs for Rising Pune Supergiants.

Last over to go. Dhoni on strike. Bravo to bowl the last over. Dhoni takes four runs off the first ball. Dhoni takes two runs quickly. He is brilliant between the wicket giving no chance for Bhatia. Dhoni takes another two. Good bowling from Bravo. It is 150 for Pune. Dhoni smashes the next ball for a big six. Dhoni and Bhatia once again take two quick runs. They tested the arm of Jadeja, Karthik missed it completely. A shabby work from Karthik. Dhoni smashes the next ball through point for a boundary. It is 20 runs from the last over of Bravo. Pune finishes with 163 for 5.

Jadeja continues. Marsh takes two runs. huge swish and misses it. Jadeja strikes once again. Removes Marsh. Gujarat Lions are roaring back. Pune 143 for 5. Can Pune score at least 160-165? But still Dhoni, who is a best finisher, is still there. Let us wait and watch. Bhatia is the new man.

After 18 overs: Pune 141 for 4

Three overs to go: Bravo into the attack. Can Gujarat Lions restrict Pune within 160? A good contest on the cards. Excellent stuff from Bravo. He is mixing his deliveries brilliantly. Marsh smashes and takes a single. It is another former CSK versus former CSK player? Bravo vs. Dhoni. Marsh smashes and takes two runs. Dhoni and Marsh were quick between the wickets. another single. Only five runs of this over.

He strikes by removing the dangerous looking Faf du Plessis for 69 Pune 132 for 3. Dhoni comes and takes a single off the first ball.

Six overs to go.Steve Smith is the new batsman. Faulkner continues. Both the bowlers are bowling brilliantly not allowing the batsmen to score big runs. Smith faces his first delivery of this IPL. two quick runs from Smith and du Plessis. anothr quick two runs from these two. Karthik is messing up behind the wickets. another two runs.

After 14 overs: Pune 113 for 2

Seven overs to go. Can Pune score 200? Bravo into the attack. Pietersen gives strike to du Plessis. good slower ones from Bravo making it difficult for the batsmen to smash him. another slower one and a single. brilliant bowling from Bravo. He is mixing his deliveries. One of the batsmen should go about scoring big. Bravo removes Pietersen for 37. Pune 113 for 2.

Jakati into the attack. du Plessis hits another boundary. Pietersen tries to smash but misses it. It is fifty for Faf du Plessis and Pune on course for a big score.

Jakati into the attack. du Plessis smahes straight down the ground, Faulkner does a good job to restrict it to two. du Plessis and Pietersen are taking on Jakati. Good over so far from Jakati.

Tambe continues. good start. du Plessis takes a single. These two batsmen are looking good. good batting from these two. taking singles and odd boundaries off loose deliveries. three singles so far from this over. good over from Tambe. excellent running.

Jadeja continues. Pietersen and du Plessis runs two quick runs. It is fifty partnership between these two. excellent fielding at point, certainly saved a boundary. It is Brendon McCullum at point. another exhibition of good fielding from Faulkner. quick single from Pietersen and du Plessis. excellent fielding from Suresh Raina.

Tambe into the attack. A good start from the veteran leg-spinner. Excellent shot from Pietersen, great fielding from Finch, only two runs. great comeback from Tambe. excellent shot from du Plessis and a boundary to end the over.

After seven overs: Pune 66 for 1

Jadeja into the attack. good ball from Jadeja after the single off the first ball. Pietersen takes a single now. another huge six from du Plessis. Brilliant batting display from Faf. nine runs off the over.

After six overs: Pune 57 for 1

Dwayne Bravo into the attack. He is introduced early. Pietersen hits a maximum off the first ball. five balls to go in the powerplay. a good slower one from Bravo. three singles after the six off the first ball. du Plessis hits another six. Excellent batting from du Plessis and Pietersen.

Jakati swaps ends. Pietersen takes a single. du Plessis hits a maximum off the next ball. Excellent running between the wickets. Pietersen hits a boundary now. A six and a four so far. Pune batsmen taking on Jakati early.

After four overs: Pune 28 for 1

Tambe into the attack. good shot, Rahane smashed it over mid-on for another boundary. Rahane races to 21. appeal for LBW. Tambe strikes. Dangerous Rahane goes for 21. Pune 27 for 1. Pietersen is the new man. gets off the mark immediately. Five runs and a wicket.

After three overs: Pune 23 for no loss

Praveen continues. good delivery to start off the third over. Rahane takes a single. good over so far from Praveen. A boundary for du Plessis. seven runs from the over.

Gujarat Lions have brought in Pravin Tambe, Shadab Jakati and Akshdeep Nath in place of Pradeep Sangwan, Sarabjeet Ladda and Ishan Kishan.

Both the new entrants to IPL got off to a winning start, Rising Pune Supergiants mauled Mumbai Indians while Gujarat Lions roared past Kings XI Punjab.
