That's the end of the 2019 IPL auction.

The busiest franchises this evening appeared to be Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals. Rajasthan Royals too did some heavy bidding. CSK hardly had any slots to fill so it was a fairly relaxed evening. The new face who fetched the joint-highest price tonight was Varun Chakravarthy, the spinner from Chennai who can bowl pretty much everything with his right arm. He gave up a career as an architect to give cricket a second shot. Good decision. At 8.4 crores, he and Jaydev Unadkat are the top buys today. Read this profile of Varun Chakravarthy here.

Here are the top buys today:

Jaydev Unadkat (RR) - Rs. 8.4 crore

Varun Chakravarthy (KXIP) - 8.4 crore

Sam Curran (KXIP) - 7.2 crore

Colin Ingram (DC) - 6.4 crore

Carlos Brathwaite (KKR) - 5 crore

CoA member Diana Edulji kicks things off. BCCI's acting secretary Amitabh Choudary is set to open the auction.  He says the BCCI will try its best to keep IPL 2019 within India's shores, given the general elections next summer.  In 2009, it had to be shifted entirely to South Africa. In 2014, the UAE hosted the early part before the action shifted to India.

Amitabh Choudhary, the acting BCCI secretary, has started the #IPLAuction with a bang. From starting off with "Most respected Madam Diana Edulji" to correcting her for having referred to Anirudh Chaudhry as "Acting Treasurer" instead of "Honorary Treasurer" to saying IPL has no chairman, the undercurrents in BCCI admonishstration - oops administration - are evident straightaway.

3.25 p.m.

Minutes away from the auction. Here are the first set of players to go under the hammer -

Guptill, Hales, Hetmeyer, McCullum, Pujara, Manoj Tiwary, Vihari, Morgan

3.15 p.m.

Amol Karhadkar in Jaipur. Here's what he says. "Ten minutes to go for the IPL Auction to begin. Would be a surprise if more than 50 players go under the hammer. Dinesh Karthik is the only captain to be present at the auction table, leading the KKR charge."

Meanwhile, we have a new auctioneer on board. Richard Madley was a fixture at IPL auctions for several seasons but he won't be around this time. Let's welcome Hugh Edmeades.

3 p.m.

It’s IPL auction time again. Little sooner than expected, considering that we had a general auction in February. With IPL 2019 most likely to be advanced by a few weeks, and the World Cup in England next year, all teams will have a chance to finalise their squads earlier.

Today in Jaipur, 351 players will go under the hammer. But only a maximum of 70 will be sold. The highest base price is set at Rs. 2 crore.

The auction begins at 3.30 p.m. IST.

Below is all you need to know about what lies ahead for each team, money left in the purse and the type of players they can bid for. Reminder that this auction will be completed today, unlike the previous one that was spread over 2 days.

Read the preview to the auction here.
