Fleming said he didn’t wish to get into the debate and he primarily wanted to see Dhoni at the 2019 World Cup.

Stephen Fleming knows all about leading a team and the significance of inputs from the coaching staff.

This time, the coach of Chennai Super Kings is dealing with a nothing-to-lose approach of an inspired Delhi Capitals. The former New Zealand skipper is ready for the challenge.

On the eve of the Chennai-Delhi clash, Fleming was asked if they had any special plans for the resurgent Delhi batsmen like Rishabh Pant or Shikhar Dhawan. His response was a measured one.

“You have to respect so many players in the tournament. He (Pant) is one. But there are also others in this team. You’ve got to be very careful that you don’t over-plan. There are areas where you have to go to if a player is in full flight, and yesterday we saw one of the great young prospects of Indian cricket playing beautifully against some of the world’s best bowlers. So, it’s difficult. But again, I stress, if you put too much emphasis on one player, then there’s Shikhar Dhawan, there’s (Colin) Ingram, there’s the captain, all the way through, and that’s what we found."

Asked about CSK possible bowling attack Tuesday’s combination, Fleming praised Harbhajan Singh for his contribution against Bangalore and said, “We place a high premium on experience of Chennai and again it came to the fore. So, there are a lot of left-handers in the Delhi side which is the consideration we had when we played the last game against Bangalore, and that would be another discussion point. We’ve got other options – Mitchell Santner.  We are a little bit light in the fast bowling department, with David Willey still in England and of course, Lungi Ngidi.”
