Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming was not in favour of a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction after his side’s six-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday night.
While acknowledging that CSK’s ordinary bowling made a competitive target of 178 an easier task for KKR, Fleming said, “We [have] got to be careful that we don’t get too carried away after one bad game where the bowling looked a little bit off. It’s too easy to start chopping and changing after one bad game.
“You just got be careful, not [give] a knee-jerk [reaction] and make sure that you run the sequence long enough to see true form come through.”
CSK’s poor fielding, highlighted by the usually safe fielder Ravindra Jadeja’s dropping of easy chances from Sunil Narine off consecutive deliveries, was another sore point.
“We were exposed and sometimes it reflected on the bowling. Certainly, we were on the back foot with some good fielders making mistakes. It’s not a great performance by any means.”
Seasoned KKR spinner Piyush Chawla praised young batsman Shubman Gill for his responsible knock in the absence of the dependable Nitish Rana in the middle order.
“He (Shubman) is a special talent and he proved it. A comprehensive win is always good for the morale of the team. Nitish got injured and we needed somebody... Shubman played the role beautifully,” said Chawla.
