Be it constructing a solid innings during his legendary batting stints or keeping an eye on young talent and grooming them for tougher battles, as evident from his mentoring role with the Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid has always been one for the long haul.

Even during his stints as a commentator, he has often stepped out and guided the Indian players.

His latest appointment as the coach of the India ‘A’ and under-19 teams fits into his theme of laying the building blocks and helping shape a strong edifice.

Reacting to his latest coaching assignment, Dravid said: “I am looking forward to working with the next generation of exciting young Indian cricketers. India ‘A’ and under-19 level are really important stages, with its challenges and pressure, and having been through it myself, I hope I will be able to help the young players in their journeys.

“It is important to work with young players, figure out what they are doing and what they need.”

“I see the India ‘A’ and under-19s as a bunch of players with a lot of talent.

“And, it is also about moving up to the next level, filling up places in the senior team and yes, I will be talking to Ravi (Shastri), the senior staff and the national selectors, figuring out what they see as the challenges for the Indian team and if we can help groom the kind of cricketers they are looking for,” the former India captain said.
